Innovative Spinal Surgery

Dr. McLain is an expert in the newest motion-preserving options, including disc replacement surgery for both cervical and lumbar spine, but also has years of experience handling complex deformities and cases requiring revision surgery and repair.

He uses minimally invasive spine surgical techniques (MISS), and proven fusion and laminectomy techniques, to care for patients suffering from back and leg pain caused by spinal disease.
Microsurgical techniques can remove the bone spurs or disc protrusions causing nerve or spinal cord compression in the neck, while innovative spinal instrumentation strategies treat instability and neck or back pain.

Newest Techniques and Technology

Artificial Discs:  Lumbar and cervical disc replacement surgery offers improvement to many patients with disc herniation or degeneration who would have required fusion just a few years ago.  Dr. McLain has served as the principle investigator in FDA trials that have proven the success of these devices in properly selected patients.  He uses only FDA approved implants such as the Pro-Disc, M6, and Mobi-C cervical implants.

SI Joint Fusion: Dr. McLain has participated in the development of minimally invasive fusion techniques for patients for Sacroiliac (SI) Joint pain. This technique provides excellent pain relief and return to function for many patients with long-standing SI Joint injury and pain.
